Friends of the Estherville Public Library
is a non-profit citizens' group which believes in the importance of books
and libraries for people of all ages. As Friends of the Estherville Public
Library, we support and encourage the growth of public library service in
Estherville and the betterment of facilities for individual reading and
research. Friends acknowledge the public library as a primary center of
influence in the educational and cultural life of this community.
The Friends of
the Estherville Public Library began a project in July of 2000. We constructed a
large wooden flag that hangs on the balcony of the library during the Fourth of
July holiday. Inserted in the flag are bulbs, each representing a donation of
$5.00 given in memory of or in honor of a special person. The list of those
people honored is posted inside the library for a few weeks before the Fourth of
July and then the list is posted in the east entry windows of the library during the holiday itself.
